Phase Asymmetry Failure
Poorly balanced 3 phase networks having loads that are greater on one or more phases will case the system to become " imbalanced". Phase asymmetry relays such as the M3PA or 45095 for example, will detect such conditions. A motor connected to an "imbalanced" 3 phase supply may run at the temperatures that exceed its rating. Such conditions will eventually shorten the life of the motor. The output relay energises when all phases are present, the sequence is correct and the phase imbalance is within the trip level set on the unit. The relay will de-energise if a phase(or neutral on 4-wire) is lost, the sequence is reversed or the phase imbalance exceeds the trip level.
